Thank you for using Sat-A-Link as your Internet Service Provider (ISP)

To use your Internet connection, you will need a computer, modem, and a standard telephone connection. Your modem will call Sat-A-Link through your phone line and then connect to the Internet through our satellite dish. Through our satellite dish we can download pages at speeds up to 2 Mbs (2048 Kps) a T1 is only 1.5 Mbs. The speeds that you will be able to download pages will vary depending on your modem and phone line, a 56 K modem will download files at a maximum of 53 Kps. Below are instructions for setting up your dial-up account using Windows 95/98 or Windows XP. You may print the instructions below for your use.

Windows 95/98/2000:

1. Double click on the icon called My Computer, you should see Dial-Up Networking. Double click on Dial-Up Networking.

2. Double click on Make New Connection. Click Next.

3. Type a name for the new icon (Computer you are dialing), sat-a-link.

4. Move the cursor into the Telephone number box by clicking inside of it. Enter the phone number. Click Next.

5. Click Finish to complete your work and create a new icon. Now right click on this new icon you just created. Click on Properties. Then choose Server Types and click on TCP/IP settings. Select 'Server assigned IP address' and 'Server assigned name server addresses' then hit OK. Keep hitting OK until you are back at the Dial-Up Networking window.

6. You can now drag-and-drop the new icon on to your desktop. When you do you may be prompted with a dialog box asking if you would like to create a shortcut. Click Yes, then close the Dial-Up Networking window and My Computer window.

7. To make a connection, double click on the icon you named sat-a-link on your desktop. If the Internet Connection Wizard should happen to start just exit out, or choose Manual setup to exit.

8. A dialog box will open. Type in user and password, choose Connect. You will see a window reporting the progress of your log in attempt. Once connected the progress window will minimize itself, and a small modem icon will appear at the bottom right hand part of the screen.

9. To test your connection, open your web browser and see if you can connect to any web sites. Most computers already have web browsers installed like Internet Explorer, or Netscape Navigator.

Windows XP:

1. Go to the start menu in the bottom left of your screen.
2. You will either go to settings then to control panel or you will see control panel right away. Either way go to control panel.
3. Your control panel will be showing in either classic view or category view. If you look at the top left of your control panel it should say “Switch to Category View” or “Switch to Classic View”. So if you are in Category view it will say “Switch to Classic View”. Figure out which view you are in and follow the directions below for that view.

Manual Set-up Instructions for Category View

1. Open Network and Internet Connections.
2. Once that opens go to the connection tab on the top of the window.
3. In blue writing it should say “Dial-up and Virtual Private network Setting”. There should be a rectangular box under it, this is where all the Internet Accounts set up on your computer will be listed.
*** If Sat-A-Link is your only ISP and there are other accounts listed in the box you will need to get rid of them by highlighting them one by one and hitting remove on the right hand side. It will ask if you are sure you want to remove the icon ~ hit yes.
4. Once all of the accounts are out of the box you will hit add on the right hand side.
5. Put the dot in front of ‘Dial up to private network’ and hit next at the bottom.
6. The telephone number should be typed in with no dashes and without the area code. Please type it in with just the 7digit number and NOTHING ELSE!!!
7. Now it will ask you to type a name for the connection. You are simply naming the icon. You can name the icon anything you want or just name it: sat-a-link
8. Hit Finish when you are done. Another window should open up automatically.
9. At the bottom under ‘Dial-up Settings type in your username and password.

VERY IMPORTANT
THE USERNAME AND PASSWORD WERE THE ONES THAT YOU CHOOSE ON YOUR APPLICATION WHEN YOU SIGNED UP WITH US. PLEASE TYPE BOTH USERNAME AND PASSWORD IN lowercase letters. DO NOT PUT ANY SPACES BETWEEN ANY OF THE LETTERS!!!

10. Once you have entered your username and password hit the advanced button on the right hand side. A box will open up at the top. Look at the last two sentences in the box.
11. Both of these sentences start with the word disconnect and should be unchecked!
12. Hit OK when you are done.
13. Keep hitting OK until you get back to Internet Properties. Make sure the icon you named is the only one in the rectangular box!
14. Under the box are three sentences. Make sure the sentence that says ‘Always dial my default connection’ is checked.
15. Hit Apply at the bottom right.
16. Hitting Apply should close that window and take you back to the Control Panel.
17. Hit Network Connections at the bottom right. A new window will open up.
18. At the top under dial-up you should see the icon you created.
19. Right click the icon and select ‘Create Shortcut’.
· A box will pop up that says Windows cannot create a shortcut here. Do you want the shortcut to be placed on the desktop instead? Choose Yes!
20. Close the Control Panel.

You should see the shortcut to the icon you created on your desktop. Access this icon to connect to the internet.

1. Go to Internet Options.
2. Go to the connections tab on the top.
